“see what happened was...” _ approx. 15 minutes before this photo was taken (by @dells_g), i landed wrong on my already ailing right ankle. intent on powering on, and still high on the euphoria of the event, i initially brushed the pain off. this was still gonna be a great race. c’mon, look at that smile; things seemed alright! _ approx. 1 hour later: each and every stride become more laborious than the last. at this point, i was basically running on one leg. the tenderness of my right ankle became unbearable. hobbling over to the medical tent, sobbing, the decision was made to call it quits. just like that. it was over. _ approx. 2 days later: my spirits have stabilized. this wasn’t my last race (Chicago in October, btw). the outpour of support from friends & family has been reinvigorating. gotta fix this Steph Curry ankle for once and for all, and become the GOAT i know i can be. til next time. _ congratulations to everybody who did prevail and finish. it was rainy, windy, humid, sunny all in one race. this first hand account brought a new meaning to #BostonStrong💙💛 the crowds sweep you off your feet. it can feel as if you’re floating. so divine. _ #BostonMarathon #BlacklistLA #OutHere #RunnersOfIG #RunnersWorld #SidelineStories #Marathon #NumberTen #TheShowGoesOn #Sincerely #YourFriendlyNeighborhoodLos

oh, hey, by the way... driving sucks. _ as a mode of transportation (especially in LA), it’s proven to be an adequate method that’s essential as a way of life, for many. infrastructure of the highways (ahem freeways) have enabled people to travel long distances in a speedy, relatively cheap way that’s forged industries, creating jobs for millions, allowed strangers to become lovers, and made the beauty of road trips an actual thing. so, what’s the problem? apart from the obvious impact on our planet, constant commuting creates psychological problems. you’re stuck in this fiberglass bubble alongside dozens others beside you, on any given road, unable to make a social connection until you exit the vehicle. you scream obscenities towards the driver that cut you off without knowing the context as to why they may have made the error. as if you’ve never had to make a sudden turn, or change of lanes...these bubbles make us faux brave and extra frustrated. you’d never curse somebody out with the same fervor for unexpectedly brushing past while walking. as a result, we operate just like these machines outside of them, too. we don’t make as much eye contact as we should. we sit way more than what the body (our temples) would prefer. we’re less prone to discovering a hole-in-wall bistro, hidden park, or simply observing in detail what the sky looks like at this very moment. - the real tragedy: if you were driving, you wouldn’t be able to spontaneously take this dope mirror selfie while strolling down Chinatown 🙃 _ #TLDR #CarFreeLA #WalkItOut #iSeeBothSidesLikeChanel #SidewalkStories #StayTunedForTheNextEpisode

2:54:41 _ for the longest, i’ve been preaching against running based off emotion. i remember reading about a study that analyzed marathon times. it found that over 70% of runners peak during the first 10K, which lead to the inevitable, hitting “The Wall”. fast starts have proven not to be the recipe for a great race. _ going into training, i vowed to buck against this statistic. studying the art of defense and restraint across multiple disciplines became an obsession. examples included, boxing (most notably Floyd Mayweather’s “shoulder roll”), wartime generals, monks, and of course the #MambaMentality. as a result, my first 10K was my slowest stretch of the race 😉 _ coupled with the support from the @BlacklistLA community, my love @happyveggiegirl (if you ask her, she’ll tell you my success is due the fact i’m vegan), a text last night from my momma and all i’ve mentioned already, the morning’s landing went just as planned...smooth. _ 📷: @hmeckler _ #KipLosEBroke3 #LandingSmooth #🛬 #EatYourVegetables #SneakerFreeAgent #MarathonSZN #TheArtOfRunningForTheLoveOfLosAngeles #BlacklistLA #TLDR
